Reflections
(Lyrics: Wishart; Music: Davenport, Everling, Everling, Falcone, Fry, Herzberg, van den Elsen, Wishart)
This track is special for us. It has pushed us in a direction that we never expected to go.
It began as a piano improvisation, with lyrics and vocals added to each section.
We nearly released it in this haunting and addictive state. On reflection, we took further adventurous steps, adding male vocals and orchestral instruments, making it the track that you hear today. Our CD (disc 1) now starts and finishes acoustically with our trademark wilder space rocking in between, and where one chapter ends, another begins. We have a partner to this track, ready for a future SB & BW venture.
Bridget Wishart: Vocals, EWI (Bass Clarinet, Bass Flute, English Horn, Flute, Oboe, Harp)
Jean van den Elsen: Male Vocals
Sam Herzberg: Dumbek, Finger Cymbal, Djembe

Reflections
(Wishart)
(i) footprints
snowman footprints cross the sky
salt water diamonds never dry
oyster full, blue brimming eyes
Gaia wins the beauty prize
black rock beaches, glittering sand
pea green seaweed, fringing fans
sepia toned, sun scorched lands
it’s art, the heart understands
skydiving, slow-sliding,
high gliding, stone grinding,
white lightning, overriding plan
low-lying, light-guiding,
no timing, night flying
cold, crying, death defying plans
(ii) why
much too young to draw the line
it’s not yours, it’s mine you lied
I’m right, you’re wrong, she cried
you’re so, you‘re so unkind
I’m not sure why, I’m not sure why
I’m on your side, I’m on your side
I’m not sure why
I’ve hurt her pride
there’s no more time
it’s a crime
why?
enjoying being on my own
this tree can be my throne
wading in the water
saw a fish, I thought I’d caught her
(iii) brain and body
the only person you can be
is you, you, you
stuck here with this brain and body
like to say (I’d like to say)
I’m happy
I’d like to say
it’s my fantasy
though I know the show is not reality
the world is full of make believe
(iv) smile
there she sits, week after week
something’s not exactly right
something’s not exactly right
her hand is just as small as mine
and I’m the child, I’m the child
let’s give her all our money mummy
can’t you see she’ll play with me?
her grown up body’s just a disguise
she’s a child
she’s a child and her smile lights up
tonight
(v) promises
racing to be first
to climb the wall
running from an angry neighbour
crying that we didn’t do it
promising in future to behave
promising in future to behave
(vi) three’s a crowd
messing up, mixing up
and missing you
fitting up, fixing up
and feeling you
packing up and picking up and
pecking you
curling up, kicking up
and kissing you
trust is up, love is loud
rushing up
three’s a crowd, three’s a crowd
crush it up, square it round
brush it up
and dust it down, dust it down
dust it, dust it down
twisting all the words
my mother told you
laughing at my dreams
of ever after
pulling at the roots
of trusting you
grabbing at the fading
hints of laughter
(vii) said goodbye
drinking too much whisky
on my birthday
singing songs on the motorway
bringing friends who should stay
away, away
staying late to wait for you
that’s a date I’d hate to lose
staying overnight at a friend’s
staying here in a house I know
facing fear, no doubts I hope
staying by her side, as she died
closed her eyes, said goodbye
